'NEWSNIGHT' HEADLINES

A week ago today I said I'd begin to list all the rags mentioned during the week, in the order they were mentioned, during the headlines preview at the end of each edition of Newsnight. Last week saw The Guardian winning the race for best coverage, especially when Gavin Esler was presenting. How will it fare this week?

  1. Newsnight is , of course, way past Grant's bedtime. But I just wonder if there is any detectable slant on the stories Newsnight chooses to headline whichever paper they choose. So is there a bias within the bias ,
    so to speak ?
For example, picking out a story from the Mail which is critical of the Tories.

  2. It's certainly past mine!

I've noticed a bit of that going on during the 'Today' paper reviews for sure. Plus the 'right-wing' papers tend to get quite a lot of their mentions during the politically-unimportant 'And finally...'-style pieces leaving the 'Guardian' and 'Independent' for the bulkier stories. I once tried an objective 'marking system' that would compensate for this, but it was taking me about a hour each day to work out all the figures!!
